“Strongmaphobia”

Too much fear is exercised in Africa. It is bad enough to say that fear is practiced. This is the reason why many economies and destinies are dragging on the floor. Fear is the opposite of faith; one is the antidote for the other. As faith is designed to make things happen; fear exist to perpetrate misfortune. The product of fear is seen written in Africa and many under-developed regions in Asia and South America. With corruption, prejudice, terrorism, poverty/hunger, sickness/diseases, violence, crime, war, darkness –name it all; fear has establish his grip.

Amidst all, this article is to discuss a type of fear peculiar to Africans. In 2009, Pastor Andrew Strom, a missionary of the Lord travelled to South Africa from USA. I was privileged to be serving as an usher in one of the churches where he preached. He is a missionary with a heart for Africa. He has researched on the spiritual ideologies of many Africans, especially Nigeria. He spoke about witches and wizards but could not phantom why Africans attributes so much importance & relevance to the existence and the domineering effects this ideology has on many destinies. According to Andrew Strom there is so much knowledge in the Bible that are more effective and relevant to our situation rather than focusing on an enemy of whom we have already been given knowledge to dominate.

Let me tell you short true story that played before my very eyes many years ago. I used to have a very close friend when I was very young. I became very close to his family where I was privilege to meet his aunties and uncles –a generation of adults. They were lovely people, a wonderful family to associate with but for one thing: an elder, whom they all refer to as the bigger uncle. A self-acclaimed occultist, he was feared and hated. He was blamed for a list of atrocities happening in the family of which “debarring of progresses” is top on the list. This elder of the family is fond of boasting about his Juju (black magic) powers. He claims by his powers to have inflicted the illness on certain members of the family and when any member passes away as a result of sudden death, the secret fingers of accusation are already pointing at this “juju elder”. Unremorseful in his attitude he claims to have placed curses on the destiny of many members (adults) in the family, swearing that none of them can be successful unless he releases them to be.

There was fear in this family -the fear of this “strongman”. He was the huddle to cross and the mountain to climb; the river in which they were drowning and the fire (unquenchable) in which they burn. The whole family succumbs to his unrepentant threat and character. Many (in the family) graduated from schools but had no job and for many who are into trade and do business has little or nothing to show for it. Some got married to their wife but could not afford a place of their own. They have to manage/cramp within the family district hoping it would get better one day.

A family of many young and amiable vibrant people, yet nothing to show for it. Their consolation (about their situation) is having someone to blame for their failures. Talking about hope; they yearn and prayed, longing and looking forward to a day when this strongman of their family will journey to the land beneath the grave.

Five to ten years going, this strongman seems not to be in any hurry of leaving this world. Whenever he falls ill, rumours are already circulating within the family in preparation to celebrate his demise.  But before they could celebrate, the strongman is healthy again, smiling and already walking around by which many joys and hopes are deflated.

Over fifteen years after I knew this family, the strongman finally pass away. There was so much rejoicing and many hopes revitalized. Many could now breathe an air of relief, release and freedom as the era they have longed for has finally arrived. But another five years after the demise and passing away of this strongman, nothing changed. The same destinies were still dragging on the floor; even many more were added. The situation in the family is still getting worse and it began to look like they have waited so long for nothing.

“Strongmaphobia” is the fear of the strongman of your family. I mean the witches & wizards; the occultist and juju man or woman of your families. This fear is a time waster and a destiny killer. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). “There is no mountain anywhere; a man’s ignorance is his mountain” (Bishop David Oyedepo). We spend so much effort cursing and blaming the enemy thereby failing to check or examine what is actually wrong with ourselves.

Many destinies in Africa are caged as a result of “Strongmaphobia”. It is absolute fallacy –a deceit of the devil to keep you waiting and doing nothing to your situation. The purpose of which (the devil) is to have a “free ride” of making you languish in hopelessness so he could make a mockery of God’s covenant upon your destiny. But my question for you is: can you afford to wait fifteen years, doing nothing but watch your destiny languish on the floor?

Five years after the strongman passed away, nothing changed. Which mean he is neither a problem nor solution to the situation. With empty threats and proclamations he held down many destinies for nothing. For over fifteen year he held the whole family to ransom by a gun with an empty cartridge, acting loose cannon.

Many Christians today are focusing so much prayer on the demise of that strongman in their families. Wake up from your slumber, receive the spirit of sound mind and stand to your feet. Step out of the cage in faith. Who is called a strongman where the Lord reigns? How dare you compare a killer of an elephant to a killer of man? Which is to be feared? Have you forgotten that you are created by the Lord our God (who created also the strongman)? That only God and no one else decide upon your destiny? The Lord made a turn-around for Jabez (Chronicles 4:9-10); why won’t He make the same for you?

It is time to step up and stand aside. Stop being the sheep and start being the lion. Separate yourself, it is time to be different. Have you been told that your step mum, grand mother, uncle or auntie has placed a curse on you or your family? Have you been told that bareness, miscarriages, separation/divorce, failure, disappointments, job loss & joblessness, lack or poverty, sickness, illness, accident and untimely death are pandemic in your family? What do you believe: the fear of men or the truth of God? Are you reading your bible –to know about who you are? Whatever is not part of God’s covenant is certainly not a part of you. Ignore the lies of the enemy and step out in desperate faith. Don’t give the enemy an easy ride by conceding to his deceitful lies. Put the devil on his toes and make him flee by stepping out of your ignorance. Be eager to exhibit your hungry faith like a sculptor’s long awaited masterpiece.  Say to yourself: I am ready; ready for a new and true beginning; a beginning with grace; grace for wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

Begin to decree what are yours and denounce what are not yours. Say: sound health, financial abundant, fruitful & happy marriage etc are mine. Say: miscarriage, divorce, joblessness, accident etc are not for me. Decree these words in the morning, in the day and also at nights. Don’t ever stop but stare the situation in the eye. Let is be like food in your mouth for as a man thinketh in his heart (or says with his mouth); so is he -Proverb 23:7.
